Stephen has been serving the legal needs of his clients since his admission to the Bar in 1983. Stephen has tried numerous cases to verdict in both State and Federal Courts throughout Georgia. His practice focuses on the defense of cases involving claims of personal injury and property damage arising from premises, product, trucking and auto, and construction litigation. Stephen is counsel for retailers throughout Georgia for all claims of injury arising from the operation of their locations. Stephen is well known in the legal and judicial community as a formidable and trusted adversary.
After graduating Emory Law School in 1983, Stephen entered private practice and began his association with insurance carriers and their insureds in the defense of litigated matters. In 1989, Stephen joined Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company where he managed and defended Fireman’s Fund’s Georgia-based litigation. During Stephen’s ten-year affiliation with Fireman’s Fund, he tried numerous cases, successfully representing the interests of both Fireman’s Fund and its insureds. After leaving Fireman’s Fund, Stephen returned to private practice to continue his litigation practice.
Stephen is lead Georgia counsel for national retail store chains in all types of premises liability cases including slip and fall, falling items from heights, malicious arrest and prosecution and product liability defense. He represents both individual and corporate clients in the defense of automobile and trucking accidents involving claims of serious personal injury and wrongful death. Stephen is routinely called upon by his clients to offer advice and counsel in catastrophic injury claims or claims involving large construction projects where alleged negligent construction practices have been asserted.
Stephen has tried numerous cases as lead counsel in State and Federal Courts throughout Georgia. He has appeared before the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. He routinely participates in all forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution as an advocate for his clients in reaching resolutions that are fair and reasonable for his clients’ interests.
At Dermer Appel Ruder, Stephen has expanded his practice to include the representation of plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice lawsuits.
